This Thursday April 1st we will have the Lawson Family Dessert Potluck with the Family Night at the Book Fair.  We will begin our dessert at 6:30pm.  Please bring a dessert to share, it is always great to taste someone’s signature dessert.  The PTA will provide drinks.  Our Reflections entries will be on display as well. At 7pm, we will have our awards presentation for our Reflections participants and announce our Honorary Service Award Recipients. I hope to see you there!

Join us at our next PTA meeting, on Thursday, April 8th at 7:15pm in the library.  We will be voting on the officers for 2010-2011.

Our student body is selling teddy bears –grams to raise money for Haiti.  If you would like to pre-order a bear, there is a box in the office to send a bear to your child.  The bears will be delivered the week before Spring Break.  If your child does not want you to send them a bear, please support our kids and allow your child to send a bear to a friend!  We want our kids to be responsive to others in need, so support our Student Council’s efforts to raise money for Haiti.  They would also be open to direct donation for Haiti as well.

The parent led group “Their Future is Now” has launched their campaign to raise money to preserve our teachers.  Although the campaign will only address the class size reduction issue for first through third grade, it will affect all the teachers in the district.  They have already raised over $462,000 so far. Help us save our 8 great teachers and keep Lawson a great place for our kids.   The absolute deadline for raising money to save our teachers is May 15th..  May 15th is the state mandated date for the district to have their budget in place.  I hope you will go to the Cupertino Enrichment Endowment Fund (CEEF) website at www.ceefcares.org to learn more.   Click on the cute picture of our kids to learn more about the campaign.

“Their Future Is Now” campaign is getting started at Lawson!  Let’s not succumb to the devastating budget cuts to our children’s education without a fight.

What is it?  “Their Future Is Now” is the ONLY district-wide fundraising effort in full partnership between the parent community, CEEF and the CUSD that will help us uphold the quality of education in our school district.  It also bears a Proclamation issued by the City of Cupertino.

How will it work?

  • Raise $3 million by May 15th to reinstate 115 teachers in grades K-8 across the district. Now, you can take action.

Why you should care?

  • Because your child WILL be affected by the budget cuts in the next school year. Seniority-based lay-offs mean a reshuffling of teachers across ALL grade levels from K-8th grade.

Thanks for all of your support!

Our  6th grade sponsored Staff Appreciation Lunch “Spring Showers” was last Friday, March 19. It was a wonderful lunch for our teachers.  We want to let them know how much we appreciate them in the midst of this challenging time. We want to give a BIG Thank You to everyone who contributed food, drinks, time or money to this great event.
