There are MANY people in our community deserving of awards!  From those nominated, the following were selected to represent all the great volunteer work done in our community. Congratulations to all of them!!

HONORARY SERVICE AWARD

Cathy Tam

We have been so lucky to have Cathy Tam at Lawson for the past three years! Don't let her soft spoken demeanor fool you; she is a go-getter! She's one of those volunteers who takes on HUGE loads and gets amazing results.  She's involved in many programs and events at Lawson, both big and small, and is always willing to lend a hand. She has spent countless hours on Lawson's Magazine Drive over the years, with amazing organization and attention to detail. She is also involved in the annual CEEF Gala; The Future in Now fundraising campaign, and is co-leading this years' 8th grade Graduation, which is a huge undertaking.  She is passionate about the work she does and it shows! She always puts in extra effort to make things even more special and has such a generous heart. Thank you, Cathy, for all that you do. You are so appreciated and we will surely miss you next year!

CONTINUING SERVICE AWARDS

Ione Yuen

Ione has done an incredible job as Lawson's PTA President for the last two years!  Her warm personality and positive attitude, along with her professionalism, make her an amazing leader and a joy to work with. She sacrifices many hours and family time to attend meetings and events required of President. She has excellent communications with her monthly column in the Lawson Loop and has such a natural way of bringing the community together.  Her desire for a better school has resulted in a smooth, cohesive team of dedicated parents all willing to follow her lead. We are lucky that Ione will be at Lawson for a few more years. Thank you for all that you have done, Ione!

Alysa Sakkas

Alysa is a super woman who is the one woman Lawson Public Relations Firm. She is always promoting Lawson at every turn.  She helps in everything at Lawson: on the PTA, with Sports Boosters and sports teams, school dances, Destination Imagination, and Graduation; while also being involved in the Cupertino community with the Sister City committee and working full time!   She is a wealth of knowledge and always offers great suggestions and ideas on how to make our events and programs even better and more effective.  Thank you Alysa for being an invaluable and dedicated member of our community; you are so appreciated!

VERY SPECIAL PERSON AWARDS:

Tibor Polgar

Most of us at Lawson don't realize how much this father does! Tibor has spent countless volunteer hours coaching both boys and girls soccer teams over the years and he always goes above and beyond in everything he does.  Being the technical expert that he is, he helped the yearbook staff by photoshopping together several team photos over the years.  He also videotapes all the Lawson musical performances, then edits and burns hundreds of CDs. He has helped film and produce the Graduation DVD each year too (even after his oldest child graduated!). Thank you Tibor, for your many hours of dedication to Lawson!

Kathy Fujii

Kathy is another one of those volunteers that goes above and beyond. She has done a fantastic job leading the Staff Appreciation events for the last two years. The Staff Lunches are a highlight for the teachers. She makes sure the teachers are well fed and know that they are appreciated.

She is also on the Sports Boosters Board, where she represents the parent community, helping to set policy, as well as take on several special projects, like being Team Mom for the wrestling team this year. She is willing to help out wherever she’s needed and dedicates many hours to our school and our children.  Thank you Kathy for all of your hard work. We will miss you next year!

Marcia Matheakis

Marcia will always say,”I didn’t do very much.”  But she is always there to do whatever needs to get done.  Last year, we needed someone to do membership and direct donations, and Marcia stepped in and did it.

We needed someone to arrange ice cream for last year’s book Fair and Marcia did it.

We needed someone to take notes and Marcia did it.

We a wonderful membership chairman this year, but Marcia wanted to help anyway.

We needed someone to arrange ice cream for this year’s Welcome Back social, and Marcia did it.

We needed someone to be our library liason, and Marcia did it.

We needed someone to come early and plug in the hot water for tea, and Marcia did it.

She would do anything that needed to be done. She did not make a fuss, she just stepped in and did it.  I appreciate her so much for the 2 years that she quietly served as Executive Vice President.  Thank you Marcia!
