Aishwarya, Ryan, Sanika, Tanaya and Janaye –a team of Lawson 6th graders, competed in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Northern CA Championship on January 25th.
FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology". Each year, teams prepare a research-based presentation to solve the annual challenge, and program a LEGO Robot to compete in a game. Sponsored by the SAP software company, this team came up with solutions to combat issues dealing with climate change, focusing on the problem of drought in Santa Clara County.
Congratulations to Ashni Shetty, who received first place in the Reflections Program in the Dance category for the 6th District which includes all of Santa Clara County. Her submission has been sent on to the State level for consideration. Kudos as well to Aman Gupta for a Certificate of Merit for the 6th District in Literature, Rachit Kataria for photograpy, Anoushka Barua and Rheanna Ganapathy in Dance. A love for the arts, and being part of the creative process is the goal of Reflections, and I know that has been achieved. We are so proud of all of our contestants and we would like to honor them at our next PTA meeting on Feb. 12th, so if your student participated in the Reflections program this year, please have them join us on Feb. 12th.
A few weeks ago, our Principal, Karl Sonntag and a few of our teachers visited a school program in Fullerton, California that uses exciting technology in the classroom. Every student in that school has a laptop for the year. Karl will be sharing about this program at our next PTA meeting on Thursday, February 12 in the library at 7:15pm. I hope you can come and hear about this exciting program and be part of the discussion to try to bring it to Lawson.
Thank you so much to our parents who helped with the phone tree for the 8th grade Yosemite trip to let all the parents know when to meet the bus to pick up the tired travelers. Every little thing helps make us a great community.
Go Lightning!
