Lawson Middle School PTA 2007-2008

A Farewell Note from PTA President

Dear Lawson Students, Faculty, Staff and Community,

As my time as PTA President draws to a close, I wanted to take a few minutes to say thank you to all of you for 2 wonderful years as your PTA President. I have been at Lawson since they re-opened as a middle school in 2005, and I can tell you, there is no better middle school more committed to their students, than Lawson. As Principal Mr. Sonntag always tells me, “We have the very best students, staff, faculty and parents!” We all should be very proud.

As this year comes to a close, I thought a “look back” would be in order. As a PTA entity of dedicated parents, staff and faculty, we have accomplished so much together. We set our goals at the beginning of the school year, we have focused and stayed on task, and done our best work in providing the “biggest bang for our buck” with the donations you entrusted us with at the beginning of the year. We are all very excited about where we’ve been and what we’ve accomplished!

This year the PTA did the following:

  • Co-hosted a Parent Education Seminar series, with three other schools in the district
  • Initiated a Library fund of $5000 to support the purchase of new books and materials to be used by all students in the library.
  • Participated in a district wide Emergency Preparedness night at Lawson. PTA sold earthquake kits, and donated the proceeds to Health & Safety at Lawson.
  • Sponsored a “No Drugs” BMX Bike Assembly for the end of  the year
  • Petitioned hard to our legislators to oppose budget cuts to our schools.
  • Purchased a cart of 35 Apple computers to be used by various teachers to support students. This generous donation also prompted the establishment of a PTA technology fund for Lawson.
  • Hosted a “Family Night” ice cream social, a holiday brunch for staff, and organized a Staff Appreciation week of foods from around the world.
  • Provided an army of volunteers throughout the year for copying, magazine drives, school socials, scholastic book faire, selling PE uniforms and Lawson bags, etc.

Although I could go on, I’m sure you can see we accomplished a lot this year. It’s because we have such a wonderful and dedicated PTA, that’s able to partner with an amazing school like Lawson, to make progress and achieve success for which we should all feel proud.

Please continue to show your support to the PTA by joining next year. It is the largest organization that advocates for children, and is beyond fundraising and programs in schools - just being a member is being another voice for children in Sacramento and Capitol Hill.

Thank you again for the honor of serving you, and I wish all my best to the next PTA President elect, Ione Yuen, and her new PTA Board. Please remember to stay committed, stay passionate, and stay involved! Your children will benefit for years to come.

Sincerely yours,

Lori Gager, PTA President 2007-2008.
