Given the unprecedented magnitude of the state budget crisis and the uncertainty surrounding Cupertino Union School District’s funding, Superintendent Phil Quon will be holding a number of budget impact meetings throughout the District during January 2009. The Superintendent would like to invite all interested parents to attend and hear what steps the district is taking to try and weather the state budget crisis. He will be addressing this issue in the Lawson Event Center on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 6pm -7:30pm.  Please come to hear how our children will be affected.

Our 8th Grade High School Information Night was wonderfully attended.  Thank you to Dennis Plaza, Marianne Hew, Matisse
Yoshihara (ASB president)and Suman Ganapathy of Monta Vista High, and Kami Tomberlain, Myoung Kang, Grace Yoon
(Sr. Class President and Homecoming Queen) and Cordelia Jiang (Student Govt President) of Cupertino High and Julie
Darwish of The Fremont High School District office and Fremont High for their participation for a great evening.  I also want
to thank Karl Sonntag, Agnes Pommier, Kelly Takahashi and Shirley Keegan for emceeing that evening.  We hope that those
who attended found the evening informative and worthwhile.

At our PTA meeting on Thursday evening, we had the opportunity to welcome Jeff Bowman, our new Assistant Principal to Lawson.  We are excited to add him to our Lawson family. Karl reported that the funds for the schools are currently frozen while the district and the state decide how to proceed with the current budget crisis. Karl requested that the annual contribution to the school from the PTA be in the form of technology and in particular, more computers for the school.  We currently have 300 computers on our campus for the students and our current enrollment is over 1050, so we would like to add to our collection.

The staff Appreciation Luncheon on January 23, 2009 will be hosted by the 7th grade parents.  Please click on the date in the calendar box above for details.

Happy New Year,

Go Lightning!
