Thanks to Kathy Fujii and Claudia Chang for heading up last Friday’s 7th grade Staff Appreciation Luncheon, “Winter Wonder”. It was a cozy lunch with a hearty soup to warm up our teachers and staff and let them know how much we appreciate them. Thank you to all who contributed yummy food, and time helping set-up and clean-up and those who donated money to help provide the drinks and supplies.
Two hundred and twenty of our 8th graders and some of our fabulous teachers left for the annual Lawson Yosemite trip on Sunday in 5 buses, so this week we can expect lighter traffic in the morning and at pick up time. The Yosemite trip has been part of the Cupertino Union School District 8th grade curriculum for all of the middle schools for years (one of my friends went on it when she was in 8th grade in Cupertino!) Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to go on this great outing with our kids, and especially to all the spouses who stayed behind to “hold down the fort” while they are gone. Thank you also to the parents who are helping out with the phone tree to let everyone know when to expect the buses on Friday evening. These great opportunities for our kids can only happen with the great staff and great parents helping out. Thank you!
If you are available on Feb. 3rd or 4th, we are still in need of a few volunteers to help organize the kids for the annual state mandated scoliosis screening. If you are available Tuesday, Feb. 3rd (7th grade girls; female volunteers only please) for Shift 1: 8:10am - 10:10am or Wednesday, Feb. 4th (8th grade boys; male or female volunteers) for Shift 2:11:30am - 1:00pm or Shift 3: 1:30pm - 3:00pm, please contact Carrie Reichenberger at
.
A week ago, our Principal, Karl Sonntag and a few of our teachers visited a school program in Fullerton, California that uses exciting technology in the classroom. Every student in that school has a laptop for the year. Karl will be sharing about this program at our next PTA meeting on Thursday, February 12 in the library at 7:15pm. I hope you can come and hear about this exciting program and be part of the discussion to try to bring it to Lawson.
Go Lightning!
