Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful restful break. I want to wish you the best in this New Year. We are starting the New Year with a number of important events, so I hope you will be able to join us for as many as you can.
On Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 the Lawson PTA will host an Incoming Freshmen Information Night for 8th Graders and their parents. It will be held in the Event Center at 7pm. April Scott, Principal of Monte Vista High School, and Kami Tomberlain, Principal of Cupertino High School, will be our guest speakers. A representative from the Fremont High School District will also present the residency verification requirements. You will also have the opportunity to hear from current high school students including the Student Body President of Cupertino High, Lawson alumni, and the PTA presidents, Myoung Kang – PTA President of Cupertino High, Suman Ganapathy-PTA President of Monte Vista High, and Julie Darwish – PTA President of Fremont High. Both Myoung and Suman have been active at Lawson since its opening. Our intent is to give our 8th graders the opportunity to learn about our local High Schools. Later in the year, counselors will come to Lawson to give specific information regarding classes and registration for the individual schools. April and Kami come on behalf of the Fremont High School District, so students who will be attending Homestead or Lynbrook High will also benefit from the information presented. Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, January 6th, 2009!
Our next PTA meeting will be Thursday, January 8th at 7:15 pm in the Library. Every year the PTA has taken a wish list to the teachers and offers a sizable contribution to the school to benefit all of the students. We would like to decide on this year’s gift as soon as possible so the students will receive the benefits as soon as possible. Please come and vote on what this year’s contribution should be.
Given the unprecedented magnitude of the state budget crisis and the uncertainty surrounding Cupertino Union School District’s funding, Superintendent Phil Quon will be holding a number of budget impact meetings throughout the District during January 2009. The Superintendent would like to invite all interested parents and community members to attend and hear what steps the district is taking to try and weather the state budget crisis. He will be addressing this issue in the Lawson Event Center on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 6pm -7:30pm. Please come to hear how our children will be affected.
