2009 Lawson PTA Honorary Service Awards

There are MANY people in our community deserving of awards!  From those nominated, the following were selected to represent all the great volunteer work done in our community. Congratulations to all of them!!

GOLDEN OAK SERVICE AWARD

Suman Ganapathy.  Suman is a  tireless volunteer- with unbounded energy. One nomination aptly described her as the anchor holding down the ship, in reference to her in-depth understanding of the PTA- always knowing the answer, or who to consult, when any question arises.  She is our "person in the know" of the happenings and policies affecting our students within our school district, city, and even the state, since she has her hand on the pulse of so many organizations that impact the Lawson Community. She serves on more committees than any average person could ever keep track of – but then again, she is clearly not your average person!  Her enthusiasm, competence at all she does, and sunny personality, attract people to volunteer at Lawson because it is a pleasure to work with people like her. Thank you – Suman!

HONORARY SERVICE AWARDS

Carrie Reichenberger.  Carrie is a dynamo as our volunteer coordinator. She is always there- prompt, smiling, encouraging and supportive.  Her call emails are concise, and her follow through, impeccable.  Although she has surely written hundreds of emails for this job this year, not a single one has been extraneous. Carrie conveys each job as being essential and important by describing each as a discrete job with specific time tables and requirements. This makes each volunteer feel valued and needed.  Thank you, Carrie – your personal style makes people eager to volunteer at Lawson!

Ione Yuen.  Ione has done a FANTASTIC job as our PTA President!  She brings so many fresh ideas - always pointing out smart opportunities to publicize PTA programs and to bring our community together. She supports our communication goals with her monthly newsletters that are always relevant and thoughtful, and full of news.  Ione – thank you for all you’ve done this year…and WILL do next year, continuing as our PTA President!

VERY SPECIAL PERSON

Chanchal Sahai. Chanchal has done fabulous work as the PTA website administrator and in furthering the goal set out by the PTA to improve communications.  She is on this job 24/7 with e-mails and updates and has worked so hard to make our website useful, informative, and current.  Many don’t realize all the work she does behind the scenes. She always says it is no big deal- but it is!  Chanchal  - thank you for  all the work you have done to make our website so wonderful.

Kelly Takahashi.  Kelly is one of those people willing to help out with ANYTHING!  She takes on both big jobs, such as being one of chartering members of the Lawson School Site Council – and smaller jobs, such as stuffing envelopes, with equal dedication and enthusiasm. Need someone to sell PF uniforms – she is there, phone bank - she is there, membership chair -   she is there.  Thank you Kelly for all the many volunteer jobs you do!

Agnes Pommier.  Agnes is another volunteer who seems to answer just about any call for help made. She is also appreciated for her encouragement and enthusiasm of all the things we do in the PTA. She is quick to both offer and implement great ideas for making our events ever better and more effective.  Great work, Agnes!

Elizabeth Burke (Teacher).  We would like to recognize Beth as going above and beyond in her adjunct duty as our school point of contact for Destination Imagination.  She conducted practice workshops all day on two full Saturdays for the DI teams.  She held both instructional portions where she gave pointers to all the teams, and coordinated the individual team managers to help with the exercises.  Most remarkably, Beth took on the tireless role of the team manager for one of the teams when no parent could, so that  the students would not have to disband their team.  Thank you, Beth!
