o Registration packets sent home - Jan. 9

o Residency Verification processed at schools - Jan. 24 to Feb. 13 (each school has specific dates), special cases are processed at the District office

o Residency Verification at District office - March 2

o Course selections at schools begins - February

o Private and other middle schools registration begins - March 9

o Disenrollment letter sent home - Apr. 16

· Required Documents:

o Birth Certificate (legal name, birth date and birth place), passport okay

o Parent ID

o Current DMV vehicle registration, paystub or 2008 W2 (No utility bills)

o 2008-2009 Property tax bill or rental agreement

· Special living arrangements:

o Multiple homes

o Shared custody

o Shared housing

o Caregiver

A Note From the President

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful restful break. I want to wish you the best in this New Year. We are starting the New Year with a number of important events, so I hope you will be able to join us for as many as you can.

On Tuesday, January 6^th, 2009 the Lawson PTA will host an Incoming Freshmen Information Night for 8^th Graders and their parents. It will be held in the Event Center at 7pm. April Scott, Principal of Monte Vista High School, and Kami Tomberlain, Principal of Cupertino High School, will be our guest speakers. A representative from the Fremont High School District will also present the residency verification requirements. You will also have the opportunity to hear from current high school students including the Student Body President of Cupertino High, Lawson alumni, and the PTA presidents, Myoung Kang – PTA President of Cupertino High, Suman Ganapathy-PTA President of Monte Vista High, and Julie Darwish – PTA President of Fremont High. Both Myoung and Suman have been active at Lawson since its opening. Our intent is to give our 8^th graders the opportunity to learn about our local High Schools. Later in the year, counselors will come to Lawson to give specific information regarding classes and registration for the individual schools. April and Kami come on behalf of the Fremont High School District, so students who will be attending Homestead or Lynbrook High will also benefit from the information presented. Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, January 6^th, 2009!

Our next PTA meeting will be Thursday, January 8^th at 7:15 pm in the Library. Every year the PTA has taken a wish list to the teachers and offers a sizable contribution to the school to benefit all of the students. We would like to decide on this year’s gift as soon as possible so the students will receive the benefits as soon as possible. Please come and vote on what this year’s contribution should be.

Given the unprecedented magnitude of the state budget crisis and the uncertainty surrounding Cupertino Union School District’s funding, Superintendent Phil Quon will be holding a number of budget impact meetings throughout the District during January 2009. The Superintendent would like to invite all interested parents and community members to attend and hear what steps the district is taking to try and weather the state budget crisis. He will be addressing this issue in the Lawson Event Center on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 6pm -7:30pm. Please come to hear how our children will be affected.

The Holiday Faire was a wonderful event for all of those who were able to attend. There were over 100 booths with items ranging from jewelry to homemade cookies to original video games and music to origami. The students made wonderful items. Each booth was beautifully decorated with the products attractively displayed with prices clearly identifiable. As the end of the Faire neared, many of our entrepreneurs cut prices to sell the last of their product. Thank you to the 30 wonderful parents who came to help out (some even came at 6:30 am in the dark and cold!) Thank you especially to Ms Orlando, Ms. Nolan, Ms. Baier for their inspiration and dedication to make this great opportunity for our kids.

This Tuesday is the 7^th Grade Parent Night for Academic Planning sponsored by the counselors at from 6:30-7:30pm in the Event Center. This is a parent only event.

On Tuesday, January 6^th, 2009 the Lawson PTA will host an Incoming Freshmen Information Night for 8^th Graders and their parents. It will be held in the Event Center at 7pm. April Scott, Principal of Monte Vista High School, and Kami Tomberlain, Principal of Cupertino High School, will be our guest speakers. You will also have the opportunity to hear from current high school students including the Student Body President of Cupertino High, Lawson alumni, and the PTA presidents, Myoung Kang – PTA President of Cupertino High and Suman Ganapathy-PTA President of Monte Vista High. January 25 to January 30, 2009 – 8^th Grade Yosemite Trip

The annual Yosemite trip is an optional week-long program open to 8^th graders at Lawson. Students spend the week hiking, exploring, learning and living in Yosemite National Park. The focus of the week is on environmental education, teamwork and personal discovery.

Detailed information will provided for parents at an informational meeting on Oct. 15th in the event center.
